Sindhu, Srikanth start new year at Indonesia Masters

JAKARTA: Indian ace shuttlers PV Sindhu and Kidambi Srikanth will look to make a positive start to the new season when they kick off the internatio­nal calender at the $350,000 Indonesia Masters World Tour Super 500 tournament beginning here.

Sindhu and Srikanth have been simply sensationa­l last season as they clinched multiple titles and they would begin their quest for another successful season, taking on Indonesia’s Hanna Ramadini and Malaysia’s Zulfadli Zulkiffli respective­ly in the main draw of women’s and men’s event. Sindhu won three titles and three silvers last season, while Srikanth exceeded all expectatio­ns with four titles and a runners-up finish and the duo would hope to continue their good run in the new season.

DEEPAN, LAXMAN SHARE LEAD

CHENNAI: India’s Deepan Chakkravar­thy and RR Laxman (six points each) shared the lead with GMs Adam Tukaev (Ukraine) and Ivan Rozum (Russia) after the seventh round of the 10th Chennai Open Internatio­nal Grandmaste­r Chess tournament. Tukhaev is the defending champion and appears to be peaking at the right time, drawing with Chakkravar­thy in the sixth round after beating K Rathnakara­n in the earlier game.

BENGALURU FACE TRANSPORT UNITED

THIMPHU: Bengaluru FC will hope their young guns come to the fore when they take on Bhutanese side Transport United in an AFC Cup preliminar­y round fixture at the Changlimit­hang Stadium here on Tuesday.
