UP’S JALALPURI, ACHARYA VAGEESH, SWAROOP BHATIA GET PADMA SHRI
LUCKNOW: Three UP personalities, poet Anwar Jalalpuri (posthumously), Sanskrit scholar Bhagirath Prasad Tripathi (acharya Vageesh)and litterateur Mohan Swaroop Bhatia were named for Padma Shri award on Thursday. Jalalpuri, a Lucknow resident, is credited with translating Bhagwat Gita and Gitanjali into Urdu. He died on January 2 this year. Varanasi-resident Tripathi has written 55 books on different subjects, while Bhatia, who hails from Agra, gets the honour for his contribution to Braj art and folk.
LUCKNOW : Famous poet Anwar Jalalpuri, who died on January 2 after suffering a brain stroke, was named for Padma Shri (posthumously) here on Thursday.
The poet is also credited with translating Bhagwat Gita and Gitanjali into Urdu. Soon after the award was announced, his resident in Dhingra Apartments of Lal Kaun locality was flooded by relatives, poets and wellwishers, who went there to congratulate his sons Shaharyar Jalalpuri, a poet too, Shahkar Jalalpuri and Janisar Jalalpuri.
“Writings of Anwar Jalalpuri reflected his persona. He was very knowledgeable as he used to study a lot. He used to help youths and guide them to become a better poet. Anwar Sahab was not only good in Urdu but was well-versed in Sanskrit and Hindi too,” said Sanjay Mishra Shauq, noted Urdu poet, who was very close to the Jalalpuri.
“My father worked on Bhagwat Gita for 20 years and then came out with its translation in Urdu. He never considered Gita lesser than Quran,” said his son Shaharyar Jalalpuri.
He said, “Had my father been alive, we would have enjoyed the moment better.”
