LUCKNOW: The officials of Food Safety and Drug Administration (FSDA) conducted a decoy operation at a doctor’s clinic in Burlington area on Thursday.

The operation was conducted after a complaint was received on the portal of the state government alleging that the doctor prescribes medicines although he has no required degree for the same. The team including drug inspector Rama Shankar, FSDA assistant commissioner PK Modi and drug inspector Madhuri Singh went to the clinic as patients and asked to see the doctor. “Initially we were denied appointment but later the staff allowed us when police were called to the spot,” said Rama Shankar.

The team noticed a degree of the doctor but what raised their suspicion was medicines being brought for patients in polybags without any label. The staff was unable to answer any query raised by the team. They could not tell what medicines were being given to patients and what were the ingredients.

“There was no name of medicine, no manufacturing date on the pack and neither the content was mentioned which are mandatory for any medicine,” said Rama Shankar who collected six samples of medicines that will be sent to laboratory.

“We suspect that the medicines might be steroids,” said the drug inspectors. The doctor has been given three-day time duration to file reply on the queries raised by the FSDA team failing which action will be taken against the doctor and the clinic.

“This is a conspiracy of the opponents. My degree has been checked several times in the past and the same was found correct and the degree was produced before the team also. Our medicines are genuine and have benefitted the patients,” said Dr SK Jain, the owner of the clinic.
