Case against three including school principal; 1,80,826 students skip exam, 16 caught cheating across UP
ALLAHABAD: The special task force (STF) of the UP Police busted a copying racket and arrested three persons, including the principal, from a school in Naini, on the first day of the UP Board 2018 exam in Allahabad on Tuesday, police said. On the very first day, 1, 80,826 students left the exam believed to be a result of strict anti-copying measures enforced by the board. In Mathura, three girls face FIR for copying in Munna Bhai style, officials said.
ALLAHABAD : The special task force (STF) of the UP Police busted a copying racket and arrested three persons, including the principal from a school in Naini, on the first day of the UP Board 2018 exam in Allahabad on Tuesday, police said.
A case under the anti-copying act has been registered by the STF at the Naini police station against the three, they added. Additional SP (ASP), STF, Praveen Singh Chauhan said the STF personnel were on the alert right from the morning and that CCTV recordings were being scrutinised of different schools conducting the exam.
“When an STF team reached the Bal Bharti School at ADA colony in Naini in the second shift, Hindi paper-1 exam of class 12 was on. Despite the CCTV cameras being in place, a teacher, identified as Anil Kumar, of Bara, was found dictating answers to students in the classroom number 6.
He was arrested on the spot and the cheating material seized and sealed,” he said.
The ASP further said during the investigation it emerged that school principal Shiv Prasad and another teacher Shiv Shankar Mishra had taken Rs 2000 to Rs 3000 per student to assist them in cheating.
“These two were also arrested and an FIR registered against all three at the Naini police station,” Chauhan added.
Earlier in the day, the 2018 UP Board exam commenced under tight security at 8057 examinations centres in 75 districts of state.

A total of 67,29,540 students are registered for this year’s UP Board’s High School and Intermediate examination of 25,896 schools affiliated to the Board. They include 2152 government run, 4535 government aided besides 19209 un-aided institutions.
Of the total students registered for the exam, 37, 12,508 are for high school (class 10) while 30, 17,032 are appearing in intermediate (class 12) examination.
In the first shift between 7.30am and 10.45am, examinations of home science subject of high school students and Hindi literature paper-1 of intermediate students was held.
In the second shift between 2pm and 5.15 pm, general Hindi paper-1 exam of intermediate students was held.
UP Board secretary Nina Srivastava said owing to Hindi being a mandatory paper, all the registered 2981327 intermediate students were to appear in the exam but 127726 or 4.28 per cent, skipped the exam.
Likewise, as per information made available online by the centre superintendent, out of the total registered 963510 high school students for home science exam, 53100 (5.51 per cent) did not appear in it, she added.
Srivastava shared that on first day 16 students were caught cheating across the state including three from Mathura. FIRs against one student in Pratapgarh besides a school manager and an invigilator at Chandauli was registered for cheating and aiding mass copying.
Among those leaving the exam, Hardoi topped with 11141 students skipping the exam.
A bundle of question papers went missing in Hardoi two days back and due to which the board officials had to change question papers of six subjects in 13 districts.
Other districts with high count of those skipping the exam included Azamgarh (8842), Jaunpur (6330), Gonda (6299) and Moradabad (6034).
