BHOPAL: Can dialogues from a Bollywood movie inspire government staff to accurately count tigers across vast stretches of forest without losing focus? If the Madhya Pradesh forest department is to be believed they can.

The department has started circulating its own adaptation of actor Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘70 minute’ speech from the movie Chak De! India in a bid to motivate around 12,000 officials and employees engaged in tiger estimation to carry on with the survey even in harsh conditions.

The All India Tiger Estimation, 2018 began in MP on Monday and the state forest department is hopeful of making accurate recordings through the 95,000 sq km forest stretch. To achieve this goal, it is keen to involve celebrities from different fields to volunteer during the estimation and also motivate the personnel, official sources familiar with the development said.

While SRK’s dialogue in the movie was focused on motivating the hockey team he was coaching, the department has adapted the speech within the context of the survey and circulated it among its staff through WhatsApp in order to keep their morale up, forest department officials said.

MP’s principal chief conservator of forest, wildlife, Jitendra Agrawal, said it was important to keep the personnel motivated and focussed through the survey’s four phases, each of which would last a week.

The message bears a photograph of Shah Rukh Khan on the top ands with the line ‘Chak de MP’ and a slogan ‘Puri sab taiyari hai, samarpan aur imandari hai’ ( We are prepared, dedicated and honest).

The department is also circulating a video containing message from Olympic medal winner Gagan Narang among the personnel. Narang had also spent two days at the Kanha National Park a few days back.

According to official sources, the department is also approaching a TV actor who played the role of a forest officer and fought against poachers in a TV serial, to become part of the initiative and motivate the personnel who are carrying out the survey.
