Over 250 shuttlers to play in district tournament

LUCKNOW: Around 250 shuttlers would be seen in action in the Dragon Mart Lucknow District Badminton Tournament, beginning Thursday, at the Mini Stadium in Vinay Khand here.

Organising secretary, Agha Shaqir informed the four-day event is open for all age category players, including girls between 10 to 60 years. “It’s an effort to give a platform to talented shuttlers of the district in a big manner,” Agha states.

MARIYAN EXCELS

Mariyam Khan won all her three round-robin league matches at ease and stormed into the women’s singles semi-finals of the 1st Metrozone Cup state tennis tournament, at the Profession­al Tennis Academy here on Tuesday.

Mariyam defeated Sameeksa 4-1, 4-0 in the first match, beat Narayani 4-1, 4-0 in the second match before scripting a similar win against Surabhi 4-1, 4-0 in her third match. Sameeksha, Aditi, Meenu too made it to the semi-finals.

In the men’s singles quarterfin­als, Gautam beat Govind 6-0, 6-0, Prakhar beat Manu 6-2, 6-2, Mritunjay beat Aditya 6-1, 6-1 and Yash beat Shanish 6-2, 6-3.

OTHER RESULTS: Boys under-12 singles

(quarterfin­als): Pranav bt Garv 6-2, Madhav bt Parth 6-4, Siddhant bt Prithvi 6-2, Vikesh bt Saksham 6-2. Boys under-14 singles (quarterfin­als): Vikesh bt Arjun 6-5, Madhav bt Vivek 6-1, Parth bt Shashwat 6-2, Naman bt Anshuman 6-4.

SCHOOL CHESS

A chess tournament for schools, offering Rs 60,000 as cash awards, will be played from February 9 to 11 here. Boys and girls in three age categories would be participat­ing. Interested must contact at the Capital Centre here in Harzatganj by February 8.

MTCC TRIUMPH

Mega Trends Cricket Club (MTCC) defeated Kooh Sports Cricket Academy (KSCA) by 66 runs to win the Ekmi Devi Memorial Twenty20 cricket tournament, at the Pt Raas Bihari Tewari stadium here on Tuesday.

Central Zone games and sports meet of 32 government polytechni­cs were off to a colourful start. Babita walked away with 800m gold in the girls section, whereas Kirti Rai had the shot put gold. In the boys section, Gauri Shankar of Govt. polytechni­c Shahjahnpu­r stood first in 800m, whereas Rajat of Bareilly emerged victorious in shot put.
