Gujarat, Odisha in Under23 quarterfin­als

LUCKNOW: It was a day of convincing wins in the Under-23 oneday knockout in Kanpur on Tuesday as Gujarat defeated Andhra Pradesh by eight wickets, whereas Odisha trounced Manipur by seven wickets. Now in quarterfin­als on Friday, Gujarat meet MP, whereas Odisha take on Rajasthan.

Dhwanil R Patel smashed an unbeaten 110-ball 85, which contained nine fours and two sixes, whereas Rahul V Shah struck 63 in 84 balls with the help of five fours and a six to help Gujarat reach home in 38.3 overs for the loss of just two wickets while chasing 204 in 50 overs. PP Manohar had both the wickets.

Earlier, Andhra Pradesh didn’t look in contention from the very start and were even reduced to 5/45 in the 19th over. CR Gnaneshwar (74, 113b, 3x4, 2x6) and KV Sasikanth (70, 90b, 3x4, 1x6) tried to do the repairing work, stitching together 75 runs for the seventh wicket, but it didn’t make much of a difference and the side could make 203 in 49.1 overs.

A Nagwaswall­a (3/30), K Panchal (3/30) and J Parma (2/41) excelled with ball for Gujarat.

On the other ground, the story remained almost similar as Manipur collapsed for paltry 123 in 45.5 overs while batting first after winning the toss. In reply, Odisha romped home in just 19 overs, losing three wickets.

Langlonyam­ba MC (27) remained the top scorer for Manipur, whereas Rahulmade 23. Odisha seamer Debabrata Pradhan took 4/32, whereas Rajkishan Patel had 3/23.

Amrit Khatua (40*, 49b, 4x4), Rajesh Dhuper (29, 24b, 6x4) and Ranjit Paikaray(26, 24b, 3x4, 1x6) were the key run getters for Odisha.
