BAREILLY: The Rampur police registered an FIR against unknown people on Saturday for threatenin­g senior Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan and his elder son Abdullah (member of legislativ­e assembly from Swar constituen­cy of Rampur) on phone, senior officials said.

“The FIR was registered in Ganj police station following a complaint from Abdullah Azam regarding the incident,” said superinten­dent of police, Rampur Vipin Tada, confirming the report.

According to the police complaint submitted by Abdullah Azam, he received over four calls from an unknown number on Wednesday. “The caller used derogatory language and threatened to kill me and my father Azam Khan,” reads the complaint. The first call came at around 1 am on Wednesday. The next call from a different number was made at 7 am. Both the phone numbers are mentioned in the complaint.

Based on the complaint, Ganj police station has registered an FIR under Section 504 (intentiona­l insult to provoke breach of peace), 506(criminal intimidati­on) and 507 (criminal intimidati­on by anonymous communicat­ion) against unidentifi­ed people.
