LUCKNOW: Bright LED light strings wrapped around street light poles have added to the beauty of Shaheed Path and Lohia Path here ahead of the UP investors’ summit but these will be removed after the big ticket event to prevent them from being stolen, officials said. The Shaheed Path and Lohia Path are expected to be taken by delegates on way to the Indira Gandhi Pratishthan, the venue of the summit to be held on February 21 and 22 in Lucknow.

Lucknow municipal commissioner Udairaj Singh, said: “The LED strings are water proof and can last for more than 20 years, but they would be removed once the investors’ summit is over. However, the LMC can extend its display for a few more days.”

Additional municipal commissioner PK Srivastava said, “The LMC (Lucknow Municipal Corporation) cannot guard these LED sticks 24x7. That’s why it’s important to pull them down (after the event) and use them on important occasions.”

An LMC streetlight department official, who refused to be named, said: “Yes there is always the fear that some thieves will target these lights soon. We have to guard these lights. Three of our strings went missing from poles last Friday. We have replaced them with new ones. That’s the reason we want to remove these strings as soon as the investors’ meet is over. But we will place them again for decorating important places on special occasions.” The LMC has purchased these silver LED strings from the open market in Delhi and around Rs 30 lakh has been spent on beautifying roads with LED strings.

According to the street light department, the LED light strings are around 15.5 metres long and they cost around Rs 600 per string piece.
