Akshay makes it to snooker main draw

LUCKNOW: City-based Akshay Kumar of Uttar Pradesh made it to the main draw of the CCI AllIndia Open Snooker Championsh­ip, defeating Laxman Rawat of Petroleum Sports Promotion Board in a thriller 4-3, at the CCI’s Wilson Jones Billiards Room in Mumbai on Tuesday.

A trainee at the Green Baize Academy here, Akshay came from behind to win his fourth round match. Though Rawat raced to a 2-0 lead, he was unable to carry on the winning run as Kumar went on to pocket the next three on the trot to forge ahead 3-2.

The experience­d Rawat managed to win the sixth to level scores at force the decider which Kumar won comfortabl­y to clinch a 4-78, 34-83, 94-4, 58-48, 77-48, 2-71 and 54-26 victory and qualify for the main draw.

Earlier, Mumbai’s Parikh of Indian Railways played tactically and with a break of 69 in the second managed to edge out Paras Gupta of Uttar Pradesh snatching a 4-0 win in the best-ofseven frame encounter.

FINE VICTORY

BSNV Institutio­ns defeated Chauhan Sporting by 71 runs to collect full points in the 2nd Shivpal Sawaria Twenty20 Challenger Cup, at the Pt Raas Bihari Tewari stadium here on Tuesday. After scoring 209/8 in 20 overs, BSNVI got the rivals out for 138 in 19.3 overs.

THRILLING WIN

Panthers Cricket Academy scripted a thrilling two-wicket win against Young Challenger­s in a league match of the 2nd NDBG Trophy cricket tournament, at the Chowk stadium here on Tuesday.

Even while chasing 118 in 26 overs, PCA had to struggle a lot before making home in 25 overs. In other match of the day, Dhruv Cricket Academy beat Cricket Promotion Group by three wickets.
