Int’l branding of Kumbh Mela on cards

CM will seek external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj’s help to promote event at global level

LUCKNOW: The Yogi government is all set to go in for internatio­nal branding of Kumbh- 2019.

Starting on January 15, 2019, this biggest congregati­on of religious devotees on earth will end on March 4, with several lakh devotees taking holy dip at the banks of the Ganga in Allahabad. The UNESCO has recognised Kumbh Mela as an ‘intangible cultural heritage of humanity’.

Chief minister Yogi Adityanath will meet external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj seeking the minister’s help to promote forthcomin­g Kumbh Mela at the internatio­nal level.

The CM or any senior official of the state government is also likely to meet ambassador­s of all countries in New Delhi as part of branding exercise of Kumbh 2019.

“Chief minister Yogi Adityanath will meet external affairs minister soon to seek assistance for promoting Kumbh Mela at the internatio­nal level,” Rashmi Varma, secretary, Tourism, government of India, told newsmen here on Friday.

Varma is in the state capital to preside over two-day regional review meeting, north region, union ministry of Tourism.

The state government has also decided to hire a public relation (PR) company for promoting tourist destinatio­ns of the state.

“The state government will generate around five lakh jobs every year for youths through tourism industry,” Awanish Awasthi, principal secretary and director general, Tourism, UP government, told newsmen.

Apart from promoting religious tourism, the state government has also decided to promote eco –tourism. For this, the tourism department has decided to promote Dudhwa National Park at the national and internatio­nal level. For Uttar Pradesh, the union ministry of tourism has already sanctioned six projects under the Ramayana, Buddhist, Spiritual and Heritage circuits involving ₹ 483.19 crore. Under the PRASAD scheme, the union ministry of tourism has sanctioned five projects worth ₹ 118.23 crore covering Mathura and Varanasi.
