LUCKNOW : Former Member of Parliament Mohammad Adeeb on Saturday said Maulana Salman Nadvi was led into a trap by ‘middlemen’ even as UP Shia Waqf Board said only its formula would be acceptable to seers on the disputed site in Ayodhya.

“I have known Maulana Salman Nadvi for almost 12 years now. He has been a member of the AIMPLB for 32 years. Nobody can challenge his integrity. He is a Islamic scholar of repute, but unfortunately he has become a victim of a conspiracy by vested interests,” said Adeeb, who is also an AIMPLB member.

He said the AIMPLB had made its stand very clear that there was no scope for talks or negotiations at this stage and whatever verdict the Supreme Court delivered in the matter would be acceptable to the board.

The UP Madarsa Association, too, has disassociated itself from Maulana Salman Nadvi’s stance on the issue.

“The AIMPLB’s stand that that once a mosque, always a mosque is correct and we agree with its stand and there will be no compromise on it,” said association’s president Akbar Zafar.

The association, he said, took the decision at a meeting convened on Saturday.

However, UP Shia Central Waqf Board (UPSCWB) chairman Waseem Rizvi said that only the formula presented by Shia body would be acceptable to the seers of Ayodhya and Ram temple movement leaders.

“This is because the Babri mosque was a Shia waqf property and the agreement we drafted was done with the full consent of seers of Ayodhya and main litigants in the case and the document submitted in the apex court,” he said.

The UPSCWB, he said, had held its meeting on February 14 and again endorsed the decision taken by it and no offer made by Maulana Salman Nadvi or Sri Sri Ravi Shankar (Art of Living Founder) would be accepted.

Maulana Salman Nadvi was sacked by AIMPLB for trying to find a solution to the Ayodhya issue through talks at the behest of AOL founder. Undeterred by the expulsion, the Nadva cleric, however, has said that his effort for amicable solution to the vexed issue would continue.
