‘Urdu publishers should adopt modern strategies’

LUCKNOW: The second day of the Urdu internatio­nal conference at Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti Urdu Arabi Farsi University, organised in collaborat­ion with Maulana Azad Institute of Humanities, Science and Technology, began with a panel discussion on electronic, print, social media and Urdu language.

Waqar Rizvi discussed the role of Urdu media in shaping culture, while Khan Jeelani Ali spoke about the status of Urdu journalism among profit oriented media houses.

Prof Ahmad Ibraheem Alvi emphasized that Urdu publishers should adopt modern publishing strategies and Shafey Kidwai (Aligarh) elaborated on the role of the corporate world in media manipulati­on. Obaidullah Nasir talked about profession­alism in Urdu journalism and Prof. Rahmat Yusuf Zai (Hyderabad), stressed on the use of Urdu software for promotion of the language.

In another panel discussion on ‘Urdu Research and Critique in Educationa­l Institutio­ns’, Prof Ali Ahmad Fatmi (Allahabad) talked about the quality of research in Urdu literature Prof Sagheer Ifraheem (Aligarh) stressed on the revival of old Urdu literature while Prof Nayyar talked about gross mismanagem­ent and condition of research scholars of Urdu literature.

The third panel discussion on ‘Contempora­ry Literature and Diversific­ation’, focused on unknown and old literature in Urdu language, role of technology in shaping Urdu.
