LUCKNOW: Around 90 houses in the VVIP areas of Kalidas Marg, Gautampalli and Vikramaditya Marg faced a two-hour power cut because of the main supply cable getting severed on the intervening night of SaturdaySunday.

GM LESA (Cis-Gomti) AK Singh confirmed the outage. “During primary investigation, officials found that the contractor given the task of installing a compact transformer had damaged the supply cable. He didn’t even inform LESA after the cable was cut,” said Singh.

Power cut in an area that has the residences of VVIPs such as chief minister Yogi Adityanath, home minister Rajnnath Singh, and former CMs Mulayam Singh Yadav and Akhilesh Yadav sent the officials of the power corporation into a tizzy.

Phones of Lucknow Electricity Supply Administration (LESA) officials started ringing soon after the outage and senior officials including GM CisGomti reached the spot.

the responsibility of installing a compact transformer there, for ensuring error-free electricity supply in the area during the UP Investors’ Summit.

Even after cutting the supply cable, the contractor had continued his digging work till the time the LESA officials reached the spot.

LESA officials said the contractor had not informed them about the road cutting work. “Had he informed the authorities about that, LESA would have given him the map of the supply cables in the area,” they said. “The LESA authorities reprimanded the contractor and filed an FIR against him for breaching the cable,” said GM Cis-Gomti.
