LUCKNOW: Aiming to clear hurdles for industrialists willing to invest in Uttar Pradesh, the state government on Tuesday issued directives to 22 departments to expedite clearances for investors.

Chief minister Yogi Adityanath will issue instructions to additional chief secretaries and principal secretaries of these departments on the opening day of the Investors’ Summit on Wednesday to ensure time-bound clearance for all proposals.

“Chief minister Yogi Adityanath is personally monitoring this aspect to ensure the state gets investment. He is very serious when it comes to implementation of the single window clearance for investors,” said a senior official of the state government.

Giving single window clearance to small and medium enterprises has been long pending demand of industrialists in Uttar Pradesh. The Indian Industries Association (IIA) and other organisations of industrialists have been demanding single window clearance for small and medium enterprises for the last several years. Finally, the state government has decided to extend the single window clearance facility to micro , small and medium enterprises willing to set up their units in the state.

With this facility, industrialists willing to set up small and medium scale units in the state will not have to make rounds of several government departments to fulfill the formalities before setting up the unit.

Earlier, the single window clearance facility was available for those who were willing to invest Rs 50 crore or more in the state. Micro, small and medium enterprises fall below this benchmark of Rs 50 crore. The MSME sector’s contribution to the state GDP is around 60%.

The UP investors’ summit is the first major attempt by chief minister Yogi Adityanath to show his government’s investment-friendly face. The event is being billed as an attempt to bring UP back on the path of development.

Over the years, UP has been categorised as a ‘BIMARU’ state despite having 16.5% of the country’s population, 7.3% of the area and having elected nine Prime Ministers from Jawahar Lal Nehru to Narendra Modi.
