Another criminal killed in encounter in Saroorpur

MEERUT: In yet another encounter, the Meerut police on Saturday shot dead Sujit Jat, a hardcore criminal, in Saroorpur area. Jat carried a reward of Rs 50,000 on his head.

During exchange of fire, SHO Saroorpur Dharmendra Kumar also sustained bullet injuries on his hand.

Police said it recovered a pistol and a motorcycle from the possession of the slain criminal.

SP (rural) Rajesh Kumar said Jat was wanted in the killings of one Savitri Devi and her son-inlaw Babloo.

While Savitri was killed on February 3, Babloo was eliminated on February 12 because he turned an eye-witness to Savitri’s killing.

Jat was on run after these sensationa­l killings.

On Saturday evening, SHO Saroorpur received a tip off that Jat is planning to commit some crime.

Police laid trap and spotted him near Ganga canal where he fired at police team in his bid to escape but was shot dead in exchange of fire.

Meerut police have so far carried out 54 encounters in which four criminals have been shot dead, 111 arrested, 21 injured. As many as eight cops have sustained injuries during exchange of fire in past 11 months.

SP (RURAL) RAJESH KUMAR SAID JAT WAS WANTED IN THE KILLINGS OF ONE SAVITRI DEVI AND HER SONINLAW BABLOO.
