Kin of deaf woman allege rape, but police deny

-

LUCKNOW: Family members of a 20-year old deaf woman alleged on Monday that the physically challenged woman was kidnapped and raped. Cops, however, are denying the incident.

According to cops, the victim, a resident of Vikas Nagar, went with her husband Chhotu, a sanitary worker, to Nishatganj on March 1 for shopping. She was married to Chhotu about eight months ago.

There Chhotu met his friend Ranjeet Yadav, who is an auto driver. Leaving his wife with Ranjeet, Chhotu went for shopping. However, when Chhotu returned he found his wife and Ranjeet missing.

When all efforts to locate his wife failed, Chhotu approached Mahanagar police station. But cops did not lodge any complaint.

On March 4, the victim was spotted at Munshipulia crossing in a dishevelled state.

With the help of locals, she reached her parents’ home in Jankipuram.

On Monday, family members of the victim and her husband reached Vikas Nagar police station and lodged a complaint of rape against Ranjeet Yadav.

Cops, however, are denying that the woman was raped.

“Chhotu is an alcoholic and often thrashes his wife. On March 1, she went away on her own to escape her alcoholic husband,” said Sachin Gupta, station officer, Vikas Nagar police station.

“As the victim is deaf, I could not converse with her. Her mother confirmed that there was no incident of rape,” added Gupta. Till late in the evening, cops were in the process of registering the complaint.

“Investigation is going on. The victim will be sent for medical examination. Further course of action will be decided once we get the medical report,” said the officer.

Meanwhile, cops are quizzing Ranjeet Yadav and his friends to verify facts.
