CSIRCIMAP to host coordinating centre on medicinal plants
LUCKNOW: A coordinating centre for medicinal plants for Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) will come up at Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (CSIR-CIMAP), Lucknow.
The CSIR-CIMAP has signed an MoU with the Regional Centre for Science and Technology Transfer (RCSTT) of the IORA to coordinate activities related to cultivation processing, value addition, quality control, training, R & D, trade, commerce and exchange of experts on medicinal plants and their products in the 21 member states and 7 dialogue partners of the association. The establishment and operationalization of the coordinating centre will be funded by union ministry of external affairs.
A four-member delegation consisting of Prof Anil Kumar Tripathi, director, CSIR-CIMAP, Dr Ajit Shasany, senior principal scientist, CSIR-CIMAP and Sanjay Panda, joint secretary, ministry of external affairs was led by director general, Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and secretary, DSIR, Dr Girish Sahni, CIMAP director, GoI, recently visited Tehran to ink the agreement. “The MoU was signed by Prof Tripathi and director IORA-RCSTT, Dr A Sedrpousan, in the ministry of foreign affairs, Islamic Republic of Iran in Tehran in the presence IORA secretary general, Nomvuyo Nokwe, DG, CSIR, Dr Girish Sahni and Sanjay Panda, JS, MEA,” said Dr Shasany.
