UP Police to mark Women’s Day with 3-day celebratio­n

LUCKNOW: To observe women’s day, the UP Police will organize a three-day long celebratio­n beginning on March 6.

The celebratio­n will focus on creating awareness about the women’s rights and the laws to protect them.

In a letter issued by the DGP, the senior officials of the department have been instructed to hold sensitisat­ion programme in the department.

On the first day of the celebratio­n, a programme will be held to sensitise the police towards the women-related issues.

On the same day, the officials who performed well in solving women-oriented crimes will also be felicitate­d.

On the second day of the celebratio­n, programmes will be held to create awareness regarding women safety among students of various schools and colleges.

During the programme, police helpline numbers including Women Powerline 1090, Dial 100 and police’s online portal will be circulated among the students and they will be apprised of the laws related to women’s safety.

On March 8, the police would hold events at the district and tehsil levels wherein awareness programmes to create awareness regarding domestic violence, eve-teasing and sexual offence, etc, are expected to be held.

“The purpose is to motivate women to break silence if they undergo any kind of assault, be it in house or on the streets,” said OP Singh, Uttar Pradesh DGP.

Workshops to impart self-defence training to women will also be held as a part of the celebratio­n.

People will also be apprised of the Vikalp Portal of the Uttar Pradesh police during the threeday celebratio­ns.
