Yogi to honour 29 women for role in sanitation drive

LUCKNOW: Chief minister Yogi Adityanath will honour 29 women for their contributi­on to the sanitation movement in the state at the Swachh Shakti 2018, a convention of women village pradhans, to be held on the occasion Internatio­nal Women’s Day on Thursday.

Over 10,000 village pradhans from within the state and around 200 from other states like Gujarat, Bihar, Punjab and Jharkhand have been invited to the function that will be presided over by union minister for sanitation and drinking water, Uma Bharti.

UP is the second state to host Swachh Shakti after Gujarat last year.

Giving the informatio­n at a press conference here on Wednesday, additional chief secretary, panchayati raj, Chanchal Kumar Tiwari said the function that sought to encourage women’s participat­ion in the sanitation campaign would be held at the Smriti Upvan.

He said some women officers, including Ministhy S, J Selva Kumari, Chandani, Deepa Niranjan, Yashu Rastogi, Praveena Chaudhary and Renu, would also be honoured at the function for their contributi­on to sanitation campaign.

Replying to a question, he said 19,000 villages in the state had already been declared open defecation free.
