LUCKNOW: Social media centre – the unique initiative by the district administration that enabled citizens to register their grievances through social media/whatsapp – lies defunct.

Officials with the administration said there is no one to take care of the centre now as it is apparently not on the priority list of top bosses.

“Officials have stopped talking about the centre, which used to be a big hit among the masses,” a senior officer said.

The media centre, the foundation of which was laid in March 2015, aimed at reaching out to the masses through mobile applications and social networking sites and enable them to register their grievances.

The administration had also launched special numbers — 7572033333 and 7572044444 to curb the growing nuisance of illegal liquor consumption at public places. Besides, there were separate numbers for other problems.

However, the initiative that served as an effective tool for the masses to register their complaints, saw a low in recent past.

Officials said its decline began after the then district magistrate Raj Shekhar, who started the service, was transferred.

A couple of days back, the media centre was shut down, following the apathy of the officials concerned.

However, district magistrate Kaushal Raj Sharma said he is chalking out a plan to ensure the revival of the social media centre.
