‘Allergies reducing productivity of students, employees’
LUCKNOW: Allergies are reducing productivity of students and professionals to the extent that they have to remain at home for up to four days in a year, said Prof Surya Kant, HoD, pulmonary medicine department at the King George’s Medical University.
“Asthma comes second on the list of allergies after nasal allergy, but it compels patients to stay home for 3 to 4 days a year, which otherwise could be avoided,” he said at a press conference on Monday while announcing the conference on allergy and asthma, slated to begin from March 16.
The worst affected are daily wagers. If they take leave, they lose wages, he said.
The other allergies are those of skin, ocular, food and anaphylaxis.
“There has been higher incidence of food allergy in the last 20 years as people’s eating habits changed,” said Prof Surya Kant.
He said a conference on allergy, asthma and applied immunology – ICCAICON-2018 has been organised from March 16 to 18, where experts from different places will come and share their views on different types of allergies.
Organising chairman of the conference Dr Rajendra Prasad said approximately 50 national, international speakers and 500 delegates will take part in this conference.
