Goddess Parvati idol found damaged

ALLAHABAD: Tension gripped Ghanshyam Nagar locality after an idol of Goddess Parvati was found damaged inside a makeshift Hanuman temple in the area on Monday.

Station house officer, Khuldabad police, Pradeep Rai said no one had seen anyone damaging the idol. The idol was placed under a tree and could have been damaged by some stray animal, he added.

A mentally deranged man who was loitering in the area was caught by the locals and thrashed, Rai claimed.

A new idol was immediatel­y installed with the help of local corporator.

An investigat­ion would be carried out into the incident if anyone approached us with a complaint, the station house officer (SHO ) said.

However, a Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Pawan Srivastava claimed that residents of the locality spotted a youth inside the temple and caught him on suspicion.

The people were enraged when they saw the hand of the idol of Goddess Parwati broken and the snake in her neck damaged, he further claimed.

The youth managed to flee the scene after crossing the railway tracks nearby, Srivastava alleged.

He demanded action against the accused.
