Top ranked shuttlers for doubles tourney

LUCKNOW: Top ranked doubles shuttlers, including a many of internatio­nal repute, would be seen in action in the All India senior doubles ranking badminton tournament, beginning Thursday, at the UP Badminton Academy here.

Over 140 shuttlers have confirmed their participat­ion in the qualifying events to be played in men’s doubles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles on Thursday. Eight qualifier in each categories, besides four wild card entries, would join the main draw of 32. The event, which is being held for the first time in the state, carries a prize-money of Rs 2 lakh.

“It’s a great response to our maiden effort for this event as 367 shuttlers would be playing 210 matches over the next three days. The event holds a lot of importance as it allows the doubles specialist­s to showcase their talent at the domestic level,” UP Badminton Associatio­n’s secretary Arun Kakkar said on Wednesday.

AICC TRIUMPH

Akhil Infra Cricket Club defeated hosts Sound Images Club by five wickets to lift the glittering trophy of the 2nd Sagar Khayyami Memorial A division cricket league, at the Chowk stadium here on Wednesday. After skittling out SIC for paltry 91 in 25.5 overs, AICC romped home in 23.1 overs. Prashant and Chandresh shared six wickets between them, whereas Atul Mishra and Navneet Yadav had two wickets each for the winners.

ASCA IN FINAL

ASCA notched up a thrilling twowicket win against Young Challenger Club to make it to the final of the Ranjana Singh Under-16 cricket tournament. Needing 178 to win in 35 overs, ASCA reached home in 30.3 overs. Sachin Shukla and Lalit Kumar 41 runs each.

T20 CHALLENGER CUP

Lucknow Colts defeated National Youngster Cricket Club by six wickets to make it to the semi-finals of the 2nd Shivpal Sawariya Twenty20 Challenger Cup cricket tournament. While restrictin­g NYCC at 140/7 in 20 overs, Lucknow Colts reached home in 18.4 overs. Shailendra Singh struck unbeaten 53.

NCR WIN

North Central Railway defeated SECR Bilaspur by 32 runs in a league match of the 63rd All-India Inter-Railway cricket tournament, at the KD Singh ‘Babu’ stadium here. In other match of the day, RDSO Lucknow beat MCFR by 131 runs, at the LDA stadium.
