Minors from Nepal rescued
LUCKNOW : Two minor boys from Nepal were united with their families on Wednesday. The boys, aged 12 and 14 years respectively, were trafficked from Nepal and were being taken in a bus to Unnao for labour.
They were being taken for work by a 20-year-old youth who ran a fast food joint in Unnao.
“We came to know about the boys through a passenger who was travelling in the same bus. The passenger overheard some communications made by the youth who was taking the Nepalese boys to Unnao. We raided the bus at Charbagh bus station and rescued the children,” said Ajeet Kushwaha, coordinator, Lucknow Childline.
The boys were presented before the child welfare committee and given shelter at a government shelter home in Lucknow. They were sent back to Nepal on Wednesday.
“We got in touch with an organisation ‘Rusuf Nepal’ working against trafficking in Nepal. Fortunately, the representatives from that organisation were in Lucknow to attend a meeting on anti-trafficking on Wednesday. The children were handed over to the representatives after due formalities,” said Ajeet.
The children belonged to Japa district in Nepal and belonged to poor families. One of them was an orphan and lived with his grandparents. The other’s father had passed away.
“The children did not know Hindi or English and thus communication with them wasn’t easy. With the help of some people who could comprehend their language, we communicated with the boys and came to know about the details about them,” he added.
