FIVE OF FAMILY KILLED IN UP ROAD ACCIDENT

GHAZIABAD: Five people, including three children, were killed after the car they were travelling in crashed into a stationary truck near Deri Maccha village in Uttar Pradesh’s Greater Noida late on Wednesday, police said.

Five others, including four minors, were also injured and are said to be in a critical condition.

Police said the accident took place when their Wagon-R hit a stationary truck on the GT Road around 12.30am. The victims were returning to their village Badpura near Dadri after attending a family function at Bhovapur village in Ghaziabad.

“The car was headed towards Greater Noida when it hit the truck. The victims were rushed to a hospital in Ghaziabad. On Thursday, agitated villagers tried to block Dadri-Badalpur Road but were pacified by police,” said Love Kumar, senior superinten­dent of police, Gautam Budh Nagar.

The police said the victims belonged to the same family. “The locals at Fauji Dhaba near the accident spot rushed to the post and pulled out the victims,” said a police officer.

The deceased have been identified as Manvir, 38, Neetu, 26, and three minors – Nisha, 8, Arjun, 12, and Khushi, 6.

Those injured are Sanju, 32, and four minors – Prashant, 4, Deepanshu, 2, Kashish, 5, and Anjali, 14.

The driver of the truck fled the spot after the accident.

The police have seized the truck and are trying to trace its owner.

Police have also registered an FIR for rash driving, causing grievous hurt by acts endangerin­g lives of others and causing death due to negligence at Badalpur police station.
