LUCKNOW: On the call given by All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB), several Muslim women outfits will take out a silent and peaceful march in Lucknow on Sunday in protest against the Triple Talaq Bill mooted by the Centre.

The march will be taken out from Teele Wali Mosque at 1 pm.

“Muslim women participating in the event should adhere to Islamic culture and etiquette,” says convener of the march Najeebul Hasan Siddiqui Nadwi.

The Lucknow march is part of the ongoing country-wide campaign by Muslim women against the Bill launched under the aegis of AIMPLB. It would culminate in a ‘massive’ protest to be held in New Delhi. The date of this programme, however, is yet to be finalised.

“Silent marches are being taken out by various Muslim organisations and other public spirited outfits against the Bill. These protest demonstration have already been held in cities like Hyderabad, Bhopal, Telangana, Mumbai and Malegaon recently,” informed AIMPLB member Maulana Khalid Rashid Farangi Mahli adding that the Board was not directly involved in these demonstrations.

The AIMPLB had in its recent Hyderabad session decided to coordinate with opposition parties opposing the bill and hold women’s empowerment meetings all over the country to protect Islamic Shariah.

The Board views the Bill as an attempt to put restrictions on the Muslims and an interference in Islamic laws.

“There is a strong resentment, even anger, among a large number of Muslim women over the way the media has projected Islam, discredited shairah (Islamic) laws on the position of women in Islam.

The AIMPLB had presented a memorandum signed by more than 3.5 crore Muslims against the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill, 2017 (Triple Talaq Bill). But it was ignored. Now these Muslim women have taken to streets to lodge their protest,” said the cleric.
