LUCKNOW: Arun Pratap Singh, managing director of Madhyanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Ltd (Lucknow discom), has offered to resign while questioning the procedure that was adopted to select candidates for the post of UPERC chairman and member.

A technocrat with varied experience, Singh was among the strong contenders for the post of UPERC member. The government on Monday appointed Kaushal Raj Sharma, a retired NTPC director (operations), to the post of member and RP Singh, a senior IAS officer, as chairman on the basis of the search panel.

The search committee headed by state law commission chairman AN Mittal met here on March 16 to discuss applications received for the two posts. The committee formed panels of three most suitable candidates each for both the positions for the chief minister to select a candidate each from both the panels.

“The MD Lucknow discom has written a letter requesting me to relieve him from the post,” principal secretary, energy and UPPCL chairman Alok Kumar said.

“Singh, in his letter, has said that he wanted to quit as a protest against his name not having been considered for the appointment to the post of member, UPERC,” Kumar added.
