CANTT ROAD TO BE WIDENED TO EASE TRAFFIC WOES

-

LUCKNOW: The 4-lane Cantonment Road would soon be widened to make it a 6-lane stretch, said a public works department (PWD) official here on Thursday.

Executive engineer Jai Singh said after a survey the PWD had sent the proposal to handle the increased traffic from Alambagh, Singar Nagar, Krishna Nagar and Ashiana towards Loreto on that road. He also said the army and civic administration had reached an understanding on the widening of Cantt Road .

To note, this road is used by a population of over 10 lakh people of South City to move towards Hazratganj, Vidhan Sabha and Gomti Nagar. Singh said work on the Pipraghat bridge would start within this week as joint inspection of the site by top officials of army, UP Bridge Corporation and PWD was over and now there was no hindrance in restarting the work which was held up for the past two years.

Singh said it was expected that the bridge would become operational in of November. However, construction work would be over in August if everything went right.

The bridge will come as a boon for the residents of Sultanpur Road , Arjunganj, Cantt, Rae Bareli Road and Sadar as they will reach Gomti Nagar near Janeshwar Mishra Park by driving over the bridge. Presently, these people have to use Shaheed Path or Lohia Path to reach Gomti Nagar. The work on this bridge was stopped in 2015 because of army objection. Recently, after the interference of home minister Rajnath Singh and chief minister Yogi Adityanath, the army agreed to give permission for completion of the bridge.

Diwakar Tripathi, representative of home minister Rajnath Singh said, “The bridge is important as it will offload both Shaheed Path and Lohia Path. Residents of Sultanpur Road and Gomti Nagar would also benefit after the completion of the project. The cost of the bridge is around ₹28.09 crore. The twolane bridge would be completed soon.”

Work on Kukrail overbridge connecting Khurram Nagar, Kalyanpur and Indira Nagar with Gomti Nagar is also expected to start soon. However, the land dispute between the army and the civic administration in this regard is still not solved. Diwakar Tripathi said, “The home minister is aware of the situation. Soon the matter would be settled.”
