Two criminals killed, seven arrested in west UP encounters

LUCKNOW: Two criminals were gunned down and seven others arrested in encounters in four districts of west Uttar Pradesh, police said. Six policemen were also injured in the operations, they added.

“Two criminals were killed and seven others were arrested in police encounters in Gautam Buddh Nagar, Ghaziabad, Saharanpur and Muzaffarna­gar districts,” DIG (law and order) Parveen Kumar said on Sunday.

An encounter took place in Sector 119 (phase-3) area of Gautam Buddh Nagar in which Shravan Chowdhury, who carried a reward of Rs 1 lakh on his head, sustained injuries, he said.

“Chowdhury was taken to the district hospital where he died during treatment. His accomplice managed to escape,” the officer said. The DIG said inspector, crime branch, Balwan Singh and constables Satyaveer and Sanjeev were also injured in the encounter. Saharanpur SSP Bablu Kumar said gangster Salim was killed in an encounter with the police and added that sub-inspector Sachin Sharma of Mandi police station sustained injuries in the operation.

“Acting on the informatio­n that a gang has robbed a farmer of Rs 1 lakh and his motorcycle in Manoharpur village under Sarsawa police station area, a police team was pressed into action. The SWAT team spotted the gangsters on a bike and asked them to stop. They, however, opened fire forcing the police to retaliate,” he said. “One of the criminals, Salim, was killed in the firing while his aide escaped. Salim had a reward of Rs 25,000 on his head,” the SSP said. He said the police recovered the money and the bike looted from the farmer.

In another encounter in Dankaur town of Noida, two criminals were injured in an encounter while two of their accomplice­s escaped, police said. The injured criminals, Asraf and Salim, were later arrested, they added.

“They had allegedly stolen a truck from Sector 39. The police have recovered a country-made pistol, three empty cartridges, six live cartridges and the stolen truck from their possession,” police said. A senior police officer said a criminal, Jitendra, was arrested after an encounter in Dadri. Jitendra had a reward of Rs 25,000 on his head, he said.

Two criminals, Raes and Javed, also sustained injuries in an encounter in Budhana, Muzaffarna­gar. A policeman Sauveer was also injured, police said adding the two criminals had 12 cases of loot and murder against them. A history-sheeter carrying a reward of Rs 25,000 was arrested in an encounter in Vijay Nagar police station area of Ghaziabad, SSP Vaibhav Krishna said. Sunder (35) was wanted in five cases of attempt to murder, killing and robbery, he said. Krishna said the police spotted Sunder on a bike and asked him to stop. “He opened fire on the police team and sustained bullet injury in the leg in retaliator­y firing,” he said. “Station house officer, Vijay Nagar, Naresh Kumar was also injured in the operation. A country-made pistol, knife and a few live cartridges were seized from Sunder’s possession,” Krishna added. Another wanted criminal Rahul was arrested while constable Sachin was injured in another encounter in Sihani gate area of Ghaziabad, he said.
