10 teams for JKP Trophy cricket

LUCKNOW: As many as 10 top teams, including two locals, comprising a number of board trophy players, would be seen in action during the 4th JKP Trophy State Cricket Tournament in memory of Jitendra Kumar Pandey, starting Friday, at the Ekana Internatio­nal Cricket Stadium here.

Organising committee chief and former Indian cricketer, Gyanendra Pandey while disclosing about the week-long tournament on Tuesday, claimed that a huge sum of Rs 2 lakh would be on stake for the winners and runners. Team finishing top would be getting Rs 1 lakh, whereas the runners-up would be richer by Rs 60,000.

“Last time we had eight teams, but this time we have added two more,” said Pandey, adding, “In future, we will take this event to the all-India level like we used to have Sheesh Mahal tournament in the state capital.”

The participat­ing teams include, defending champions Moradabad, runners-up Akhil Infra Cricket Club, Meerut District Cricket Associatio­n, Kanpur Cricket Associatio­n, Varanasi Cricket Associatio­n, Allahabad Cricket Associatio­n, Gorakhpur Cricket Associatio­n, Cricket Associatio­n, Lucknow, Ghaziabad Cricket Associatio­n and Cricket Associatio­n Of Uttarakhan­d.

Besides the cash prizes, manof-the-tournament would be getting Rs 10,000, whereas best batsman and best bowler would receive Rs 5,000 each. Rs 2100 would be given to man-of-thematch in every game.

“Unlike the trend of the Twenty20 game now days, we have decided to continue conducting matches in white dress and with red ball. Forty-over for a side allows a player to showcase his ability in the game,” said Pandey.

On Friday, Allahabad Cricket Associatio­n will take on Ghaziabad Cricket Associatio­n on the A ground at 9.00 a.m., whereas on the B ground Cricket Associatio­n of Uttrakhand meet Kanpur Cricket Associatio­n.

NCC’S FUNCTION

The annual day ceremony of the National Cricket Club would take place on Wednesday here at 3.30 p.m. with internatio­nal cricket umpire Anil Chaudhary being the chief guest. Club’s chief Anjul Dua informed that cricketers, who performed throughout the year, would also be awarded on the occasion.
