VARANASI : Newly-appointed Banaras Hindu University (BHU) vice chancellor professor Rakesh Bhatnagar on Wednesday said he would work on the lines of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to create a world class academic atmosphere in the institution and take it to new heights of excellence.

Bhatnagar was addressing a press conference after taking charge as the vice-chancellor.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi always focuses on carrying out development of the nation, finding solutions to problems and making new schemes without paying attention to criticism. I will work on the same lines and focus on finding solutions to problems. Ensuring BHU’s place among the world’s best universities is my goal.”

He also said he will end casteism and factionalism in the university, adding the whole system will be made transparent.

Asked how he will deal with invisible factionalism among teachers, he said, “As a scientist, I know the formula to detect such invisible things.”

“I don’t have time for people full of negativity and spreading anarchy. I have always time for people with positive energy and positive approach,” he said.

He said the problems of the students and teachers will be sorted out and dialogue will be strengthened.

Ongoing research projects in the university will be reviewed and problems of scientists will be solved, he said.

Entrepreneur-oriented courses will be started in the university so that students turn towards self- employment, he said. He said good teachers will be brought to the university.

“The focus will be on making students so talented that they get employment anywhere in the world. We will do it,” Bhatnagar said. Asked about restoring students’ union, he said students’ union was not a solution to problems.

He also said, “It is a great feeling to get the opportunity to serve this great university as vice chancellor.”

He offered prayers at Kashi Vishwanath and Kaal Bhairav temples before taking charge. He also offered floral tributes to BHU founder Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya’s statue.
