Health care infra in villages a key issue: Deputy CM
LUCKNOW :Deputy chief minister Dinesh Sharma said here on Friday that what was ignored and neglected in India was appreciated abroad.
“What I mean is when our medical practice, our thoughts and our approach went abroad, they were much appreciated but in our own country we did not understand their importance,” Sharma said, adding: “The fault is ours . We can explain to an ignoramus and even a knowledgeable person but it is tough to explain to an arrogant man .”
Sharma was one of the key speakers along with medical education minister Ashutosh Tandon at a cultural seminar organised at Atal Bihari Vajpayee Scientific Convention Centre by KGMU and Bhaurao Devras Sewa Nyas to discuss how to extend medical service to the last person in the queue. A play ‘Ant ka Uday’ on the life of Pt Deen Dayal Upadhyay was also staged.
He said that the key issues with the health care delivery in the state included developing facilities and infrastructure at village level so that doctors did not hesitate in going there. “Earlier, people stayed close to nature and protected trees for their own good. Pt Deen Dayal Upadhyay also had the approach to connect with root, forest and land. But things have changed now and new diseases are coming up on which we need to focus,” he said.
Ashutosh Tandon said that Pt Deen Dayal Upadhyay had a vision for Ekatm Manavwaad which means heart, brain and soul get together to do a work. “How to bring this Ekatm Manavwaad was the thought of Deen Dayalji,” said Tandon.
HoD, trauma surgery, Prof Sandip Tiwari, the coordinator of the event, spoke on the life of Pt Deen Dayal Upadhyay, while vice chancellor of KGMU Prof MLB Bhatt shared statistics on health expenses. “In UP 6 % people fall below poverty line due to out of pocket medical expense while the national average is 3%, half of the state,” he said .
