LUCKNOW : A 27-year old physically challenged woman allegedly committed suicide on Saturday in Ramnagar colony under Bazarkhala police station by hanging herself from a tree in the backyard of her residence.

The deceased has been identified as Natasha Varma who had lost both her hands in an accident on November 8. Natasha was a computer operator in the state roadways department, where she was working on contract basis.

Her office colleagues had collected donations to get an artificial right hand for her. Around ₹2.5 lakh was spent on Natasha’s artificial hand and her colleagues were planning to arrange for an artificial left hand for her too.

According to cops, she was under depression after losing both her hands. Natasha was staying with her brother Santosh and sister-in-law Radha.

On Saturday morning, Santosh left for work and Natasha was left at home along with Radha.

At around 10 am when Radha was cooking food, she called Natasha to take a bath. When her calls went unanswered, Radha went to the backyard of the residence looking for Natasha and found her hanging from a tree with a saree.

Radha informed her husband Santosh about the incident. After getting information, cops from the Bazarkhala police station reached the spot and sent the body for post mortem examination.

“No suicide note was recovered. It appears to be a case of suicide but police are investigating the case. After we get the post mortem report, things will be clear,” said Vikas Chandra Tripathi, assistant superintendent of police (West).
