WEST BENGAL’S MOST WANTED CRIMINAL HELD IN LUCKNOW

LUCKNOW: The city police’s cyber cell and Hazratganj police arrested the most wanted criminal of West Bengal Mohammad Mukhtar alias Dhanua near Darulshafa here on Sunday.

A resident of Hooghly in West Bengal, Mukhtar is a notorious contract killer. He was absconding for the past one and a half years after killing a politician and businessma­n in his home state.

Several cases are lodged against him in police stations across West Bengal. In the past one year, he kept changing his locations from Haryana to Delhi and was currently residing in Lucknow. He was staying with some locals of Hooghly who are working with the Lucknow Metro Rail Corporatio­n (LMRC).

role in Mukhtar’s arrest. It received informatio­n about Mukhtar’s presence in Lucknow and through surveillan­ce of his cell phone number, kept a close watch on him.

“After constant surveillan­ce, we were able to nab him. He is among the most wanted criminals of West Bengal,” said Arun Kumar Singh, in-charge of Lucknow police’s cyber cell.

After Mukhtar’s arrest in Lucknow, Hooghly police also carried out raids at his residence there and recovered large number of crude bombs.
