AGRA: BJP parliamentarian from Fatehpur Sikri Chaudhary Babulal welcomed the decision of the Supreme Court diluting provision of the SC/ST Act, at a press conference here on Sunday, three days after Agra MP Ram Shankar Katheria advocated a review petition against the court verdict.

“As a public representative, we have come to know cases where SC/ST Act was misused to harass upper caste and OBC. It is good that now immediate arrest will not take place and investigation is to take place before such stringent measure under SC/ST Act,” Babulal said.

About his absence at a recent function for laying foundation stone of civil terminal of airport here within his constituency, the MP said, “If you want to know about my absence, then ask him (Katheria) who laid the foundation stone for civil terminal construction work. I was never invited although my name was mentioned as the one presiding over the function,” he said.

However, Katheria, when asked, had said on Thursday that due invitation was sent by Agra administration to Sikri MP Chaudhary Babulal for foundation stone laying function of civil terminal extension.

He had refused to elaborate on the issue or to talk about absence of his fellow MP in the function.

administration, Chaudhary Babulal accused the officials of working at the behest of MP Ram Shankar Katheria, saying officials involved in corruption were given prime positions while those working honestly were being sidelined.

“I have lodged a complaint at every possible level,” he said.

Chaudhary Babulal won on BJP ticket from Fatehpur Sikri parliamentary constituency while Ram Shankar Katheria won from Agra urban seat, also on BJP ticket.

Both have never been at ease with each other but differences were also low profile. Katheria rose to become minister of state in HRD ministry before becoming national general secretary and has now been now appointed chairman of Schedule Caste Commission and is projected as dalit face of BJP.

However, this has not gone down well with Chaudhary Babulal who was named as accused in the much talked about Panwari case in Agra where a caste clash took place in the nineties.
