2 Engg students killed, 1 critical in road mishap

LUCKNOW: Two engineering students were killed while another was critically injured when a speeding truck hit a scooty on which the trio was travelling on Faizabad road in Chinhat here on Monday night. Police said the youths were not wearing helmets and neglecting road safety measures reportedly claimed their lives.

LUCKNOW: In a tragic incident, two students of an engineering college were killed while another was critically injured when a speeding truck hit a scooty on which the trio was travelling on Faizabad road in Chinhat on Monday night.

Police said the youths were not wearing helmets and ignoring road safety measures reportedly claimed their lives.

The two deceased were identified as Rahul Singh and Prashant Singh while the injured, Avnish Kumar, was undergoing treatment at KGMU’s trauma centre. The two deceased and the injured were pursuing their B Tech (part III) from Babu Banarasi Das Engineering College. They stayed together in a rented flat in Silver Nights Apartments in front of the college campus.

Inspector of Chinhat police station, Raj Kumar Singh said the incident occurred in front of Toyota agency when the two friends, Rahul and Prashant, were going to drop their friend Avnish at Polytechnic crossing around 11.30pm. He said Avnish had to board the bus to his home town after getting news about his grandfather’s death.

Singh said the scooty rammed into a truck near Semra turn and the trio suffered grievous injuries. He said some passers-by informed the police control room and rushed them to Ram Manohar Lohia hospital where two of them succumbed to their injuries while Avinish was referred to the trauma centre. He said the youths were not wearing helmets and neglected road safety measures that apparently led to their death. He said Rahul’s uncle Suresh Singh however had lodged an FIR against the truck driver for causing death due to negligent driving in the matter.

Meanwhile, a 32-year-old man Raghvendra Kumar was crushed to death by a speeding truck while crossing the road near Gupta trisection in crowded Charbagh locality here on Monday night. The deceased was a labourer and was returning to his rented room in Ashiana after completing his work at Charbagh hotel.
