GORAKHPUR: A railway employee got burnt to death under mysterious circumstances in his office at railway press under Cantonment police station on Tuesday noon.

The deceased identified as Sanjay Kumar Yadav, 49, was a ‘grade three’ technician in ticket printing section in the railway press. “Around 1.35 pm, some employees noticed flame coming out of canteen which is upstairs and when they reached there they found charred body of Sanjay Kumar Yadav. Within minutes, ambulance, rail officials and police reached the spot. Doctors declared him dead and police have sent his body for a post-mortem examination,” said chief public relations officer, NER, Sanjay Yadav.

Meanwhile, Sanjay’s son Ashutosh in his complaint to police accused some moneylenders of killing his father for failing to repay amount with interest.

“Some people had given Rs 13 lakh to my father during demonetisation last year and he had to take loan from others to repay amount after they started harassing my father asking to repay the money with interest. Except Rs 2 lakh of a person, he had cleared the amount but they were demanding interest on it. I have given a complaint to police against them,” alleged Ashutosh.

“How is it possible that a man sitting in his office under security is set ablaze? Post-mortem report is awaited and a probe is on to ascertain the reason. No FIR has been lodged in this connection yet,” said station officer, Cantonment, Manoj Pathak.
