DGP says his men did a good job during dalit protests

Violence reported in multiple states but UP police controlled it better, says Singh

LUCKNOW: Appreciati­ng the UP police efforts to contain violence related to Dalit protests on Monday, director general of police (DGP) OP Singh on Tuesday said special alert had been sounded in districts of Agra and Meerut zones were major incidents of violence were reported.

While talking to media persons after the inaugurati­on parade of the six-day Police Week, the DGP said proper force deployment had been done in violence hit districts and the situation was totally under control. He said the district police chiefs had been asked to intensify vigil and intelligen­ce network to keep a watch on people trying to disturb law and order in garb of Dalit protest.

He said violence were reported during the Dalit protests in multiple states but the UP police controlled it better. He said extra police force had been provided and officers asked to do pro-active policing to avert any attempt to disturb law and order in the state.

During his address on the Police Week inaugurati­on, the DGP also focussed on improving soft skills of police personnel.

He said he wanted the state police force to be identified as the best force in terms of behaviour and entertaini­ng complaints at police stations.

Singh said the police top brass was mulling to increase fuel and other wages of police personnel. He said a proposal was mooted to provide close user group (CUG) mobile numbers to all beat and police outpost in charge for better connectivi­ty.

So far only police stations in charge, PPS and IPS officers have CUG mobile numbers.

Earlier, the DGP took the salute at the parade by SSP Lucknow Deepak Kumar and second commander SP North Anurag Vats.

He also conferred awards on 67 police officers for their services to the state police force. Hundreds of senior police officials, including ADG Law and Order Anand Kumar, ADG Zone Rajeev Krishna, ADG (technical services) Ashutosh Pandey, IGs PAC JN Singh and A Satish Ganesh, DIG Law and Order Praveen Kumar and many others were present.

Other than different teams of PAC and ATS, a team of State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) troop dressed up in black and saffron dress participat­ed in the inaugural parade.

Police week schedule Police week would be observed from Tuesday to Sunday during which different programmes will be conducted. On Thursday, governor Ram Naik will take the salute of state police ceremonial parade at Lucknow Reserve Police Lines.

On Friday, chief minister Yogi Adityanath will address IPS officers during a programme at UP100 building. A day-night cricket match between IPS and IAS officers will be played at Ekana internatio­nal stadium on Sunday.
