Yogi announces medical college in Deoria

GORAKHPUR : Chief minister Yogi Adiyanath on Tuesday launched ‘Dastak’ and ‘School Chalo Abhiyan’ on the second day of his visit here and also announced that a medical college will be built in Deoria.

Launched formally in the state capital on February 15, ‘Dastak’ is an ambitious scheme of the UP government under which it has joined hands with UNICEF to check the deaths caused by encephalit­is by spreading awareness among people .

The programme named Dastak (which literally means knocking) is aimed at ensuring that people in every household get their children vaccinated and adopt healthy habits to prevent encephalit­is. “We have sent a proposal to the Centre to build a medical college in Deoria. The land next to the district hospital will be used once the proposal is accepted .” CM told the audience during a public meeting before visiting the Community Health Centre at Gauru Bazar.

He further added that JE spreads through mosquito bites, but can be checked by stopping mosquito breeding and keeping the surroundin­gs clean whereas water-borne AES can be controlled by drinking potable drinking water. He asked the gram pradhan to get India marks Water hand pumps installed with the help of the funds granted by the government.

He also sought people’s cooperatio­n in checking the spread of JE/AES by joining the Dastak Abhiyan. Speaking on the ‘School Chalo Abhiyan’ Yogi informed that over 1.54 crore students enrolled in primary schools in the last academic session in 2017 while 1,000 enrolled themselves from Gorakhpur alone on the first day of ‘School Chalo Abhiyan.’
