4,174 VIOLATORS FINED IN A DAY

- Bikers/ scooterist­s penalised for not wearing helmet

LUCKNOW: Sixty teams of RTO and traffic police issued 4,174 challans in the city during a daylong campaign ‘Road Safety Life Safety’ on Wednesday. As many 2,922 bikers/scooterist­s were penalised for not wearing helmet and 1,252 motorists were fined for driving four-wheelers without seat belt.

As a result of strict monitoring by traffic police and RTO officials at 60 crossings during the day, there was an increased level of adherence to traffic rules in the city in the evening. Traffic cops were in action at different crossings of the city since morning.

They performed their duties without any pressure and also fined VVIPs. Many people tried to show their clout but traffic cops didn’t relent and issued challans. ARTO VK Asthana and PTO Nagendra Bajpai who were at Sikandar Bagh crossing said, “People tried to bully us, but we were given a free hand today and we acted according to the law.” ARTO Praveen Singh and PTO Aneeta Varma, who were stationed at the 1090 crossing, had a tough task while dealing with commuters not wearing seatbelt or helmet.

“Everyone was trying to prove themselves as VIP, but they were issued challan,” they said.

PTO Madan at Bangla Bazar crossing issued many challans while senior ARTO Ritu Singh at Lohia Path remained active throughout the day. She issued challans to everyone who violated traffic rules.
