Four cops hurt in encounter with criminals in Bahraich

BAHRAICH: A police team of Rupaidiha police station arrested three dreaded criminals in an encounter on Tuesday night, said superinten­dent of police (SP) Jugal Kishor here on Wednesday. The arrested criminals were carrying reward of ₹1.25 lakh on their head.

Police also recovered one country made pistol of .32 bore, 2 factory made pistols of .315 bore and 4 live cartridges from their possession.

Four policemen and three criminals sustained bullet injuries in an encounter which took place on Tuesday night.

These criminals were wanted in many crimes including a case in which they looted two houses and shot at a woman.

A case was registered under Rupaidiha police station on March 20 in this connection. Superinten­dent of police Jugul Kishor had engaged a special surveillan­ce team (SST team ) of the police to nab the culprits.

Acting on a tip off, SST in-charge Jai Narayan Shukla and SHO Nanpara Sanjay Kumar Dubey along with a police team conducted a raid near Jaitapur Canal under Rupaidiha PS on Tuesday night.

On seeing the police, the gang of criminals opened fire on the team. Four policemen, including SST in-charge Jai Narayan Shukla and three constables were injured while SHO Sanjay Nath Dubey had a close shave. In retaliator­y firing three of the gang members also sustained bullet injuries and arrested by the police.

All the injured were rushed to the district hospital.

SP Jugul Kishor visited the district hospital and praised the police team. Kishor said all the criminals arrested by the police team were resident of Sitapur district and identified as Santosh Tiwari s/o Ramesh Tiwari, Dilip Kumar s/o Ved Prakash and Israr s/o Babu. According to police both Santosh and Israr were carrying a reward of ₹50,000 each while ₹25,000 was declared on the arrest of Dilip Kumar.
