KANPUR: A police station in Kanpur became the centre of attraction for getting a love struck couple married on its premises, despite family opposition due to caste factor of the boy and girl!

The twist in tale was that the couple was none other but the two cops posted at Rail Bazaar police station in Kanpur Cantonment.

As sub-inspector Harish Yadav and constable Bhavna Chauhan exchanged garlands and tied the knot amidst chanting of vedic hymns in a small temple on the police station premises on Monday evening, their colleagues cheered.

SHO Manoj Raghuvanshi and senior sub-inspector Abdul Kalam blessed them as their guardians. After the ceremony, a grand feast was also held in their honour at Rail Bazaar police station.

Earlier in the day before the traditional ceremony, Harish and Bhavna had a court marriage.

The two had met a year ago at Rail Bazaar police station. They became friends while working together and fell in love. Since they belonged to different castes Bhavna’s family was opposed to their relationship, said a colleague. As a result the two decided to marry and were helped by their colleagues. The policemen divided themselves into two groups—one went with Harish and other with Bhavna. Senior policemen acted as their guardians and oversaw all arrangements. Some cops even brought sweets and distributed it among locals, who out of curiosity gathered outside the police station to see the ceremony.
