2 more Ambedkar statues damaged
VARANASI/AGRA: Barely the furore over idol vandalism had settled down, when reports of two more statues of Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar being vandalized, in Mau and Firozabad, were reported on Thursday .
In Mau, Dr Ambedkar’s statue was broken by some unidentified miscreants in Chirraiya Kot area, a police officer said, adding that the statue was installed outside Sarsena village. The matter came to light on Thursday . The police officer further added that the statue was installed near a Dalit dominated area of Sarsena village. In the morning, when a group of women went out of the village for some work, they noticed that it was broken. They immediately informed locals who reached the spot and were angry.
Police received information and circle officer AK Singh along with heavy police force reached the spot. The locals demanded action against the culprits and also replacement of the broken statue. Singh assured them of speedy action.
Station officer Rahul Kumar Singh said that a case had been registered against unidentified elements under relevant sections of IPC following the complaint by the locals. Further investigation is on. A new statue will be installed at the place very soon, he said.
Meanwhile, in Firozabad Dr Ambedkar’s statue was vanadalized by unknown culprits in Nagla Nandiya village sparking tension in the area.
The incident came to light on Thursday morning. Police rushed to the spot on receiving the information and replaced the statue after lodging a case.
Confirming the incident, incharge for Sirsaganj police station in Firozabad, RK Dubey said, “The statue was found damaged on Thursday morning and was replaced in consultation with villagers at Nagla Nandiya. Efforts are on to identify the accused and case has been registered at Sirsaganj police station against the unidentified accused.”
