LUCKNOW: Former chief minister Akhilesh Yadav has advocated proportional reservation for all castes based on their population with the help of Aadhaar.

“Aadhaar can play a decisive role in ending all quota related quarrels. The NDA government just needs to take into account the caste-based population data with the help of Aadhaar and grant proportional reservation to each caste on the basis of their percentage in the total population,” suggested the Samajwadi Party national president at a function here in Lucknow on Saturday.

Yadav said the Central government should link each citizen with Aadhaar and find out caste wise data of population to give their rights and quota as per the provisions prescribed in the Constitution.

“Everything, right from your phone number, bank account, property details to the shopping which you do is linked to Aadhaar. So why not make use of this information to put an end to the fight over job quota, once and for all,” he said.

The former UP CM accused the NDA government of spreading hatred by pitting one caste against another on the issue of reservation.

“They (government) stoked sectarian passion and incited one caste against another by telling Gujjars and Pattidars that maximum benefit of their quota had been grabbed by Yadavs and Patels,” he said. The SP chief said job quota was a major reason for unrest and disharmony created by the BJP, which relied on the principle of divide and rule.

He attributed the growth and presence of little known castebased political factions to this divisive and caste-based politics of the BJP.

Yadav, however, parried a question on seat-sharing formula on caste equation with its new-found ally BSP. “I don’t want to reveal the plan as BJP would then get to know,” he quipped.

Yadav had recently said he would take the benefit of experience of BSP chief Mayawati and show a large heart when the occasion came (for formalising an alliance).
