Ambedkar statue desecrated in Saharanpur

MEERUT: A statue of Bheemrao Ambedkar was found desecrated in the city area of Saharanpur on Tuesday, sending administra­tive and police officials into a tizzy.

Police said their men and administra­tive officials rushed to the spot and got the statue repaired and painted to avoid any trouble.

The statue near Bhooteswar crossing is installed on a disputed plot, which is which is being taken care of by an organisati­on called ‘Pariganit Jatiya Sangthan’.

The organisati­on’s head Rajbal (he goes by one name) had gone to the plot on Tuesday and noticed that the right hand of the statue was damaged. He immediatel­y informed the police.

Superinten­dent of police (city) Pranjal Pratap Singh said police and administra­tive officials rushed to the spot and the statued was repaired and painted.

Singh said all police stations in the district have been directed to ensure safety of statutes of leaders, including Ambedkar, so that anti-social elements could be prevented from vitiating the atmosphere.

Additional director general (ADG), Meerut Zone, Prashant Kumar also has given similar directions to police chiefs of all districts of the zone.

POLICE SAID THEY RUSHED TO THE SPOT AND GOT THE STATUE REPAIRED AND PAINTED TO AVOID ANY TROUBLE.
