Lucknow to host Jr national badminton in Dec

LUCKNOW: Big time badminton events are set to make their presence felt in the state capital as Uttar Pradesh Badminton Academy would be witnessing the conduct of the 43rd Junior National Badminton Championsh­ip from December 10 to 16 here.

As per the annual calendar of events of the newly revamped Badminton Associatio­n of India, the Uttar Pradesh Badminton Associatio­n has been given the responsibi­lity of conducting the junior nationals for the first time.

Before the nationals, BWF World Tour Super 300 event Syed Modi Internatio­nal Badminton Tournament would also take place here from November 20 to 25 after a gap of one year.

“We have been allocated the junior nationals in December here, and I am sure this would be a big boost to our junior players in the state,” UPBA’s secretary Arun Kakkar said on Tuesday.

KRISHNA WINS

A Wamsi Krishna with 3.5 points emerged victorious in boys under-17 category of the District Chess Championsh­ip here on Tuesday. Krishna played a draw with Aditya Pant and garnered half a point in his last match on Tuesday. Aditya Pant and Raghvanshu Mishra with three points each finished second and third, respective­ly.

BIG VICTORY

BSNV College scored an emphatic eight-wicket win against LRC in a C division league match, at the Chowk Stadium here on Tuesday.

Shivam Tripathi and Vivek Anand shared six wickets between them as LRC collapsed for paltry 106 in 27.2 overs. Later, BSNV College romped home in 13.5 overs, losing two wickets.

In other matches of the day, Asha Foundation defeated Central Cricket Club by 38 runs, whereas Divine Cricket Academy beat Kalpana Cricket Foundation by 90 runs. Shiva Singh and Gopesh Singh took four wickets each for winners.
