On the recommendation of the state government, the department of personnel and training (DoPT) issued a notification for a CBI investigation into three cases registered at Makhi police station in Unnao.

An official not willing to be named said a CBI team was likely to visit Unnao on Friday to take up investigation. SP CBI Raghvendra Vatts has directed the UP police to hand over the documents regarding the cases.

In its notification, the DoPT said case crime number 89/18 (under section 323,504,506 IPC, 3/25 Arms Act), case crime number 90/18 (under section 147,302,323,504 IPC) and case crime number 96/18 (under section 363,366,376, 506 IPC and 3/4 POSCO Act) registered at Makhi police station will be taken up by the CBI for investigation.

Principal secretary, home, Arvind Kumar said the state government had on Wednesday recommended a CBI probe into the alleged rape of a minor girl and death of her father.

On Thursday evening, the state government received information from the DoPT that notification had been issued for the CBI probe.

In its report submitted to the state government, the special investigation team (SIT) had recommended registration of FIR against Sengar and handing over of the investigation to CBI.

SIT also recommended that investigation into two crosscases lodged on April 3 that led to the arrest and death of the girl’s father should also be handed over to CBI.
