Patients’ deaths: Plea in CJM court against AMU VC, three others

-

ALIGARH: The issue of JN Medical College strike and subsequent deaths of the patients during the strike period seems to be hotting up.

On April 10, president of Aligarh unit of Rashtriya Ulema Council and chief of Bharatiya Samaj Sewak Sangathan Ifraheem Hussain filed a petition in the CJM court here against AMU vice-chancellor Prof Tariq Mansoor and three office-bearers of Resident Doctors’ Association (RDA), demanding that a criminal case should be registered against them under sections 302,120(B) and 409 of the IPC.

The court has admitted the petition and fixed the next date of hearing on April 20. The AMU administration is now seeking legal advice for future course of action.

Ifraheem said, “After the junior doctors of JN Medical College went on strike on March 28, 15 patients expired for want of treatment. Though the strike was declared illegal by AMU administration, VC Prof Tariq Mansoor did not make any effort to get it withdrawn, nor was any action taken against the junior doctors and RDA office-bearers.”

“The AMU V-C is wholly responsible for the death of patients . Hence, I have filed a petition in CJM court charging the VC Prof Tariq Masoor and three RDA office bearers with murder, conspiracy and road blocking public work. The court has accepted the petition. It has directed the Civil Lines police station to submit its report whether or not any FIR is registered in the case. The hearing will take place on April 20”.

His advocate Ashok Kumar Yadav said, “We have filed this petition under Sec. 156(3) of Cr.P C in CJM court. In our petition we have said that AMU VC Prof Tariq Mansoor and the RDA office-bearers are responsible for the deaths of patients in JN Medical College during the strike period. Despite having sufficient powers, the VC Prof Tariq Mansoor failed to get the strike called off and did not take any action against the striking doctors due to which patients died.
