2 fire incidents at PGI: How safe are patients?

-

LUCKNOW:A minor fire broke out at the Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS) on Thursday evening in the office of the medical superintendent.

A similar fire incident had occurred at the emergency ward of the institute on Wednesday night.

The fires were doused before they could do any damage.

However, these incidents have put a question mark over the quality of wiring inside the emergency ward.

Sources at the institute claimed, there was a mesh of wires inside the false ceiling of the emergency ward and as the quality of wires in the institute was not up to the mark.

“If good quality wires were used, fire incidents would not have occurred inside the hospital.

The fire started all of a sudden in the area where serious patients were admitted. Many of them had to be shifted outside the ward following the mishap,” said a staff of the hospital on the conditions of anonymity.

Meanwhile, PGI director Prof Rakesh Kapoor said, “The fire was of minor nature and the cause of fire is yet to be ascertained. There is no need to panic as PGI is absolutely safe for patients.”
